Second meeting of the regional working group within SERDA

The second meeting of the regional working organised by Sarajevo Regional Development Agency was help on the 27th of February 2014. The aim of the meeting was to present and verify the results of the CAME analysis performed for the renewable energy sources (RES) sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The CAME analysis includes a series of strategic guidelines that need to be carried out, in order to accelerate the development of the entire renewable energy sector.

Within the current social and economic situations, and due to the fact that the RES sector in Bosnia & Herzegovina is still in its infancy, it is very still susceptible to various threats. Thus, the aspect of the CAME analysis that is of most interest and which was discussed the most was the comparison of Strengths and Threats (S-T) in order to adapt to the changes that are affecting B&H and take advantage of any opportunities that arise.

The S - T strategies identified for B&H include the following:

• Implement the international obligations of B&H in respect to RES.

• Study and measurement the potential of renewable energy sources

• Use support projects by international financial institutions as from the early stages of project preparation.

• Develop the transmission and distribution network for the reception of electricity produced from renewable sources

• Adoption of social protection programs for customers

• Develop programs to promote energy production from renewable sources

• Develop and implement programs to educate the public about projects using renewable resources

These strategic guidelines should be added to and help in the support the development of programs and plans for the transfer of knowledge and technology through universities, research institutes, and private enterprise. The can also provide assistance to the development of educational programmes, setting up of research infrastructures, implementation of pilot projects and participation in projects financed through EU funding programmes, together with international partners from the EU and other countries.
